Digital Media Transfers

Do you have boxes of old VHS tapes, slides from generations ago, or CD's from your childhood?    Did you find a box of 8mm films from your parents/grandparent's basement and want to preserve them before they disintegrate?   I can help with all of this!   I specialize in analog restoration and conversion as well as digital media ripping.   See below for what is offered!

 
 

CONVERSION

If you have analog (non-digital) media, the first and most important step is to get it into digital format.   This is called conversion.   It is the most time consuming part of the process, as each tape/slide/video, etc., must be individually and carefully scanned, copied, recorded, etc., into a computer.   This is where you are in good hands sending me what you have.   I will take extra care of your precious memories and I will treat them as if they were my own!

FORMATS ACCEPTED:

  • VHS Cassettes

  • BetaMax Cassettes

  • Standard Audio Cassettes

  • 8mm film (all size reels)

  • Reel to Reel audio (all sizes)

  • LP's, 45s; ("records")

  • Slides (ie Kodachrome, etc.)

  • Stereo Slides

  • 8mm Video Cassettes (ALL formats such as Hi-8, etc.)

  • MiniDV Video Tapes

  • Photos of ANY size (even in albums!)

BASIC EDITING:

  • Track/event separation (if you have a cassette with indivudual songs, I will make each song a separate file. If you have a long VHS tape with multiple events, I will do my best to separate out each event, making each an individual file, rather than a single LONG video of the whole tape)

  • Cropping/scaling as needed

  • Basic Color Correction if needed

  • Fade in/out as appropriate

  • Simple noise reduction as appropriate

These services are included as they are all part of making the resulting digital footage as much like the restored-video-collection as possible!

ADVANCED EDITING: 

  • Title pages

  • Lower thirds

  • Intro/outro pages

  • Basic digital effects

For example, if you have a VHS tape with 7 different “events on it”, the included editing would separate each of these into separate videos and be processed to be as authentic as possible. The Basic Editing tier will give you on screen labelling of each of those events. Lower thirds to signify what/when the footage is of, or a simple title page that indicates this before the video begins.

PREMIUM EDITING:

On an individual basis, we can discuss more involved/advanced editing. Examples include

  • Montage videos

  • Highlight reels

  • Video Slideshows

GETTING YOU YOUR FILES!

If you have had your media ripped from digital format, I will send you a link to a Google Drive folder, and you can download your media as it appears!   Also for a small price, I will get you everything on a single flash drive (unless you have a LOT of media!)

If your media has been converted from analog first, you will also get a personal/private link to a Google Drive folder.   You will be able to see your media appear as it is processed in near real time!   This online access is included in the price of conversion!

If you are wanting DVD's and/or CD's made of your converted video, that can be done too (sometimes our parents still want a DVD of their old 8mm films!).  Since not everyone needs this physical media, it is a separate service (see "PRICING" page for details!)

Photos can either be simply put on a DVD in their raw format, or for an additional fee, a DVD slideshow can be produced that would be compatible with both computer and stand alone DVD players.  Whichever would meet your needs!  

RIPPING

In today's age of online photos and YouTube, even those of us who have already had our media converted to Digital formats find ourselves unable to access our music, photos or videos.   Most laptops do not have a CD player, and most Home Theatre setups are more likely to be without a DVD player!   If this is you, I can convert your CDs or DVD's onto a Flash Drive, or onto an online cloud storage service (usually, Google Drive, or Dropbox!)   This is a fast process, since the conversion has already been done, the data just needs to be copied!
