Piano Tuning & Repair

Whether your piano is brand new, or 100 years old, it should have consistent maintenance done to be kept in good playing condition!

Ron brings a lifetime of musicianship and mechanical expertise to your piano! Whether it just needs a tune, some minor tweaks to fix a few “sticky notes” or more extensive repairs, Weiler Creative Media can get you up and playing.

Here is a beautiful century old Hobart M. Cable player piano that I recently did some work on. It was such a fun project and by the time I left it was not only in tune, but playing piano rolls!

Grand pianos, uprights, spinets, and even player pianos can be scheduled for maintenance or repair. It should be noted that player pianos often require much more time to make repairs due to the incredibly complex and diverse mechanisms that are incorporated into those pianos. Any other piano can have many adjustments and repairs made during the piano tuning vist.

A recent happy customer (“before pictures below”) needed a little more work with some replacement parts on this family heirloom. Two visits and family and friends were sitting at the instrument again making music!

PRICING

STANDARD TUNING - $150

Assuming your piano has been tuned relatively recently, a typical visit takes about 2-3 hours. Though some can do it faster, but I am very thorough and would rather spend a little more time and have the results be the best they can be. This would include the tuning, and any small adjustments that can be done without disassembly or parts that would need to be ordered. If more extensive repairs are needed, those can be discussed on an individual basis.

DOUBLE TUNING - $250

If it has been a significant amount of time since your piano has been tuned, or if it has been recently moved, your piano may need a double tuning. Even an untrained ear can probably guess if this is the case, as the instrument would likely be very unpleasant to listen to and/or out of tune with other instruments. Here the process would be the same as an initial standard tuning, but then a second “fine tuning” would be needed. Pianos have a “memory” of sorts, and when a piano has not been tuned in awhile, it will actually resist being tuned (especially if the instrument was under pitch) and want to return to its former state. A “double tune” can significantly increase the likelihood that it will hold its tune longer (and a visit in roughly 6 months would be recommended).

REPAIRS - QUOTED ON SITE

Every piano and it’s needs are different. When I come visit your home, assuming a diagnostic can usually happen in the context of the tuning process. We can discuss the needs of the instrument, and how much time and money the piano would need and we can discuss parts and time costs. The basic framework for a repair visit would be $100 plus parts cost and $50/hour of work. I have good sources for just about any part imaginable, so being able to get the needed parts for a repair is not usually an issue.
